Business Licenses

Lamar County Board of Commissioners issues Business Occupation Tax and Licenses for unincorporated Lamar County.  Lamar County Code and Ordinance requires all businesses that wish to operate in unincorporated Lamar County to obtain and maintain a Lamar County Business Occupation Tax and License (Sec. 2-12-21).  Please know that without a current Business Occupation Tax and License, you are considered in violation of the Lamar County Ordinance and you will not be able to continue business operations until a Business Occupation Tax and License application has been filled out, taxes have been paid and a business license has been issued (Sec. 2-12-30).

Every business in Lamar County renews their Business Occupation Tax and License yearly, no later than March 31st.  On July  14, 2009, the Commissioners adopted Ordinance 2009-04  which requires both the Tax Assessor’s initials and the Tax Commissioner’s initials in order to renew your business license.  Both initials must be on the application when it is turned in to the Commissioners’ Office.  A copy of any current state/health license must also be turned in to renew a license with Lamar County.  A late fee charge of 10% of a business’ annual fee will be added to any license renewed after the March 31st deadline(Sec. 1-12-30).

To obtain an Business Occupation Tax and License, bring the business license application, a copy of any current state license, a picture ID and exact cash or check to the Commissioners’ Office.  You may download a copy of the application below.

The same application is used to open and renew businesses. If you are no longer in operation, please complete a non-renewal form and mail it to the Lamar County Board of Commissioners so that we may document it in our files and close out the business.  You may download a copy of the non-renewal form below.
